Is the BMW i3 really an ‘eco car’?

With the empty and draughty wheel arches and underside sporting the usual fixings found on conventional vehicles it is noticeable that the aerodynamicists paid scant regard to reducing the designs drag coefficient. At a reported 0.29, it is bettered by many petrol powered cars. If we multiply this by cross sectional area then we have a total drag worse than a 1960’s Austin A40. Is that progress?
