Technology to the rescue!

Boats and planes already have systems which broadcast information to other vehicles. It is an aid to safety. Even the crew of a small sailing vessel is able to determine the name of a large vessel approaching them and know her speed, position, direction and a host of other details about that vessel. The receiving equipment is relatively inexpensive and can prevent collisions, especially in fog. It seems a more sophisticated system will eventually be applied to road transport. It could make our journeys quicker and reduce fuel consumption. It could even make collisions between vehicles fitted with this system virtually impossible.
